Freddie
DOB: 28/08/1999

Freddie is an ex-racing greyhound who had a promising race career until he broke his hock (right rear ankle joint) and couldn't race any more. He came here to live via rescue and an excellent foster home on 6 December 2002.

He had a bald bum when he first arrived. This is quite common amongst greyhounds living in kennels. A loving home and a good diet soon sorted him out and his bottom is now as hairy as a mother could wish!

When Freddie arrived he had definite "personal space" issues and didn't like any other dog coming too close to him when he was resting. He would even get off the sofa rather than share it with me! Since his first holiday when he had to travel in the back of the car with all the dogs, he has gradually improved and now likes to snuggle on the sofa. He's got even better with the advent of whippets who take no notice of his grumbles whatsoever!

Freddie is a delicate sensitive soul who is easily spooked. He and Claire are terrified of fireworks so I dose them up on Scullcap and Valerian (available from Dorwest Herbs) and keep the TV/music loud on firework night. I also have DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheromone) Diffuser that I can switch on at times of stress.

This former promising racer is definitely a 40 mph couch potato! He does need his 23 hours a day! He loves to run and often likes to play. As he doesn't have any social skills he usually manages to stop the game rather than join in, although these skills are improving slowly. He is extremely affectionate and loves to give kisses especially if you give him an ear rub!
